Step 5 – Find the control
The fifth and last step is finding the control.
As you get closer to the control, look at the map to see if you can locate a clearly visible object close by, and tick it off.
Once you’ve found and punched the control, high five.
Now, you just need to repeat steps 1-4 for each control – understand the map; orientate the map; plan the route; and go from A to B – until you’ve punched the all controls and reached the finish.

Skill tip: If you get lost, review which objects/key features you’ve passed, and then try visualizing where you are. If you still don't know where you are, retrack your steps and try again. It's not uncommon for orienteers to have to go back and redo some of the steps, even for the elite. Practice makes perfect.
